Life goes on……..

After the craziest weekend of my life comes…… well another crazy week. Having four and a half thousand freshers (new university students) arrive in town just in time for the biggest student festival on the South Island on top of the other fifteen or so thousand current students has proved to be mayhem! The surf breaks are crowded (well maybe 20-30 people, hardly Fistral Beach), the streets bustling but more importantly Poppa’s is jammed full! I have been working my nuts off this week. Its so crazy how the whole city can go from being dead quiet to brimmed full in just a week. Thats a real student city for you.

Because of the late post last week and our busy work schedule, I haven’t had much of a chance to take many pictures. But the few pictures I did take are awesome and have inspired me to take on many differing projects with my photography. Many of which you should see over the coming weeks.

A great picture for an upcoming project I have planned

One of many amazing shots from Thursday's sunrise

A mysterious sandblown cave at Doctors Point

Today turned out to be a productive one. We managed to buy some timber and some veggie seedlings and I constructed two raised, lined planters for our decking. My lack of power tools meant that I had to do the whole job the hard way, back to basics. as they say “When in Rome”….. (or New Zealand of course).

The trusty hand drill, you only get out what you put in!

Getting there..... maybe a bit slower than usual

Ta Daaa

All planted, watered and ready to rock and roll

The planters are raised 300mm off of the floor to let the soil drain sufficiently in heavy rain and they are both sealed with weed resistant cloth. We have planted 8 baby spinach in the first planter and 6 cauliflowers in the other. We seriously underestimated the space we needed and still have 12 broccoli and 6 beetroot to plant. Looks like i’m buying more timber!

Thanks for reading and see you next Sunday

P.S I will leave you with another image from Thursday morning
